Private (posthumously promoted to Corporal)
2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment (Van Doos), based in Valcartier, Québec. He was deployed with the Canadian contingent of NATO forces serving in Afghanistan. Aged 23.

He was killed when his armoured vehicle struck a roadside bomb while on patrol in Panjwaii District, approximately 25 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City. Eleven other soldiers on foot patrol in the vicinity of the explosion were also injured. They were evacuated by helicopter for medical treatment and were in good condition.

Cpl Couturier was born in Loretteville, near Quebec City. He had been with the Canadian Forces since March 2006. He was remembered for his sense of humour, even at the most stressful moments. He never missed an occasion to talk about his passions - hockey, his Ford Mustang and, last but not least, the love of his life – Andréanne.

Cpl Couturier is survived by his partner Andréanne Thivierge, parents Céline Lizotte and Yvan Couturier, brother Nicolas, and other family and friends.

Military Funeral held on October 1, 2009 in the Sainte Jeanne d'Arc Chapel, at the Valcartier Garrison.

He was the 131st Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan since the mission started in 2002. One diplomat and two aid workers have also been killed.

Merci, Céline Lizotte, for the photo.
