Massimo Vitaliano, 25 years old was born in the town of Galetone, 35 km south of Lecce. He was the son of Anna Tonia Pellegrino and Antonio Vitaliano. Brother of Miralina, his oldest sister. Massimo was a Corp Maj in the 19th Cavalry Regiment, Garibaldi Bersaglieri Brigade from Salerno and he was serving in Iraq as his annual service abroad. He had been in Iraq since June and October 31st was to be the last day of his mission. He died as the result of an accident, at 6PM, just 10 km out of Nasiriya, Iraq during patrol. This was his seventh mission abroad. Four times in Kosovo, one time in Afghanistan and this time in Iraq. He was transported to the American hospital in Tallil but it was too late. Massimo Vitaliano died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
