Clelia Elaine Brown was one of seven children born to Donald R. Brown and Emma C. Wasson.

She married Vern LeRoy Towns on April 23, 1938 in Sublette, Kansas. They would have three sons and two daughters. Vern died suddenly in 1983. Clelia never remarried.

Clelia was a woman full of smiles and quick laughter and little jokes. She was very short and loved to tell people that she was taking a job with the military - - as a navel inspector. She knew the spelling of her first name could be confusing so when people would "correct" the spelling to "Celia" for her, she just let it go. She had a stuffed animal that sat on her living room floor for years. It was a cat she named "Earl". Of course the fact that it was squashed flat with big Xs for the eyes just pleased her to no end.

Clelia was an avid quilter who kept a brag book on an end table in her living room so we could flip through and see her lovely work that she had given away.

Clelia taught school from 1936 to 1938 at Pleasant Valley School which was a one-room school house. That school is now located in Garden City at the Lee Richardson Zoo. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She also belonged to the Social Order of the Beauceant and was past matron of Order of the Eastern Star. She also volunteered her time driving for Meals on Wheels.

Clelia was a wonderful, gentle soul. A person we will love and miss. An angel who is surely at home in Heaven.

*Special thanks to Denny Jackson who originally created a memorial for Aunt Clelia and deleted it so we could make a page for her. It is a kindness we much appreciate.*

*Special thanks also to Fayth Evjen for sponsoring this memorial page. We greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness.*
