I do not know Margaret Catharine Brawley's maiden name, nor the name of her first four sons' father. Margaret was born in Pennsylvania according to census accounts made by her sons. In trying to estimate when her first husband died, clues point to between 1812 and 1816. Her youngest of four sons was born in November 1811, and some history mentions that she came to Ohio as a widow. About 1816 she purchased land in Range 12 (Rome, Athens, Ohio) for $150. In the land record/deed it states that she was from Geneva, Fayet (Fayette), Pennsylvania. She married William Donaldson in Athens Co., in 1817.

Margaret was the mother of James S. Brawley, Henry B. Brawley, George Brawley, John Brawley, and William Donaldson.

The son, John, my second great grandfather, died in his early 40's and did not live to see his children live to adulthood. John had five children; four lived to adulthood and married. One of his sons survived serving in the Civil War.
WJW contributed the image of the grave stone. The grave stone is clearly inscribed with Margaret's death date as June 12, 1841, aged 58.
