Mary was a loyal, loving person, and I am proud that she was my sister. Mary suffered so much in life. Unfortunately, we grew up in a family where abuse was part of our daily lives. Sadly, as a woman Mary married two men who hurt her, and when she developed cancer at the age of 53, she felt unable to go for help. For the last year of her life, Mary fought hard, but cancer took her in September 25, 2015, just shy of her 55th birthday. I will always love her, and feel honored to have had her for a sister.Today, in a final act of love, I give this loyal, kind person the only thing I have left to give: my last name. In death, may Mary know the love and peace that she never found in life. I wish I had been a better friend and sister.
