Mary Madgalene Brown age 90 of La Marque, passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends, Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at her residence in La Marque. Funeral services are 11:00 am Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday.

Born December 4, 1922 in Lehigh, Oklahoma to Joel Smith and Antoine Rucker Smith, Mary attended Green Bay Schools in Palestine, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a seamstress by trade. It was amazing how her work transferred to her family life as she was the thread that kept the family strong and together. She was first affiliated with the
Green Bay AME Church in Palestine and then became affiliated with Bible Days Revival Church, Word of Faith Christian Life Center and the St. Emmanuel Ministries.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvie Lee Brown, Sr. and a son, Harvie Lee Brown, Jr., survivors include daughters, Gwendolyn Brown and Ida Brown Pete; sons, Charlie Ray Brown and Harvie Lee Brown, III (Margaret); grandchildren, Marsha Watson, O'Neill Pete, III (Norja), Sherondria Brown, Ecko Dotson, Demetria Charles, Falcon Brown,
Fenix Brown and Felecia Melton; great grandchildren, Kennedy Brooks, Payton Faison, Keeshon Charles, Taylor Kemp and O'Neill Pete, IV; brothers-in-law, Clyde Hanks, Clifton Hanks, Tommy Hanks, Willie Hanks and Paul Stephens; sisters-in-law, Winifred Smith, Mary Russell, Doris Branch and Harlene McKnight; godson, Carl Davis; goddaughter, Renea Hill;
devoted nieces and nephews, Diana Douglas, James and Mary Jones and Hollis and Martha Hilton; devoted family, Juanita McKnight, Odie Brown and Jesse and Carolyn Fernandez.
Pallbearers are Wilbur Carter, Joseph Wilson, Ranzy Levias, Winston Jones, Joseph Smith, Ahmal Davis and Freddie Savage.

Special thanks go to AMED Hospice nurses Martha Swann and LeTonya Mims, UTMB Geriatric Staff, Johnny Davis, P.A., Liliana Andrade, M.D., Dr. Raji and nurses Jackie Pope and Earnestine Bryant.

Mary Brown was my very best friend's mother, Gwendolyn Brown. I have known Gwen for over 30 years and knew both her father Harvie and her mother. I have always considered them to be my second parents. I pray for the family every day and night. Lauriesmommy
