Luigi Pietro Accursi was my great-grandfather. He was born in Sambuca Pistoiese, Italy, and immigrated to the United States on the Genovese ship Duca di Genova in 1910. He married Emelia Peccolo Bertolero and had three children. He lived and worked as a professional coal miner in southern Illinois and was fatally injured in a mining disaster when his son (my maternal grandfather) was only four years old. His tombstone reads, "Requiescat In Pace."
