She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Zeigler) Thompson. On Dec. 1, 1945, she married Earl B. Hoover, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1979.
Surviving are six children: Zenith (Donald) Dodson of Carson Valley, David (Charlene) of Yosemite, Ky., Theodore (Karen) of Duncansville, Earl B. Jr. (Patricia) of Duncansville, Zoeann Hoover-Acker of Imler and Tyler (Sheryl) of Geeseytown; 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mahlon; a son-in-law, Richard Acker; two brothers; and three sisters.
Betty retired as a certified nursing assistant for Valley View Home in 1982 after 15 years of service. She attended Upper Claar Church of the Brethren.
She enjoyed attending church, country music, watching Jeopardy and spending time with her family.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 22, 2017, at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at the funeral home, Pastor David Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
