Donald F. Hoover, 85, Carson Valley, died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Mahlon E. and Dora (Coltabaugh) Hoover. He married Louise Estep July 19, 1943, at Grace Reformed Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years; a daughter, Cathy Petre (Rufus) of Carson Valley; a son, Donald F. Jr. (Jane) of Denver, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Linda Hoover (the late Ronald) of Hollidaysburg; 13 grandchildren: Christopher (Julie) and Susan Petre; Jennifer Hoover (Ray Hunter) and Courtney Kelly (Patrick); and Clifford (Stacey), Rebecca, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Aaron, Vanessa, Hannah, Ariana and Ariella Hoover; seven great-grandchildren: Gino, Alexis, Benjamin, Brianna, Colter, Carter and Max. He was predeceased by his son, Ronald; and brothers: Kenneth and Earl.

Donald was a life member of Carson Valley Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, and was on the ministerial board and financial board.

He was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School, 1943 graduate of Millersville State Teachers' College and Penn State University.

He taught for 37 years at Hollidaysburg Area Schools and served as an assistant principal at the junior high and senior high, and was financial manager and football coach. He served on the Hollidaysburg Area School Board for 24 years and the Altoona Vo-Tech School Board for 18 years. He was in charge of finances for District 6 and the Northwest Regional Wrestling tournaments for many years. He was named District 6 Man of the Year in 2005.

Donald was president and trustee of the Carson Valley Cemetery Association. He was owner of Don Hoover & Sons Construction Co.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg (www.sorgefuneralhome.com) and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at Carson Valley Church of the Brethren by Pastor Bradley Runkle. Interment at Carson Valley Cemetery.
