Adam was left an orphan at a very early age, and was bound out to live with a farmer in Vinton County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood.
Adam was married to Catherine Polen on March 6, 1837 in Ross County, Ohio. They were the parents of Elizabeth, Samuel, Francis, Joseph, Adam Jr., John, Emanuel, Mary, William and Wilson. Adam owned a farm in Green Township, Ross County, Ohio.
Adam married Elizabeth Rout after Catherine died in childbirth. Adam and Elizabeth had three sons, James, Alviso, and Bennie. They moved to Urbana in Champaign County and he lived there until his death.

Adam Huffman aged 72 years, died Friday night, at his home north of town. He was taken to Kinnickinnick, Ross County, Ohio for burial. His son, Rev. Huffman of Circleville and two brothers accompanied the remains.
(Adam's son Emanuel was a Methodist minister. He and two of his brothers brought their father back to Ross County to be buried next to their mother in Crouse Chapel Cemetery.)
