Mrs. Newton Shields passed away Wednesday of last week at the family home east of Blakesburg after a short illness of pneumonia following fifty-one years of age.

She was reared to womanhood in Wapello County and demise the community loses one who will long be remembered for her kindness to others. In time of sickness and distress she was much comfort and help being a good nurse and always willing to do her part. She endeared herself to her friends and neighbors.

The funeral was held at the family home at 2o'clock Friday afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. Shipps of the Pleasant Home Church. She is survived by her husband and four sons Orville, Carl, Edgar, and Wilbur and one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Christy near Bloomfield. Carl has been in the service and stationed at Scurate, Massachusetts and came home to attend the funeral.

Thus ends the earthly career of a noble woman. The excelsior extends sympathy to the family and friends.
