Bernard Nod Barnes, Jr. was the only child of Bernard N. Barnes, Sr. and Lula Gordon RUSH Barnes.
He had one step-brother Jack S. Johnson and two step-sisters Elsie Johnson and Mrs Mary Sue (Johnson) Brown. WE DO NOT know where they are buried. Believe it is in the Dallas area.
A lifelong Dallas resident, born at home at 2822 McDermitt Ave. Dallas, TX. Bernard was a graduate of Crozier Technical High School in Dallas, TX. A member of the Texas State Guard enlisted November 15, 1943 - he completed 2 years and 28 days of service. He was honorably discharged December 13, 1945 by reason of conflict between civilian occupation and Texas State Guard duties. Military qualifications were Sharpshooter Course E; Expert Course D Sharpshooter Sub-Machine Gun. Captain Stanley W. Foran noted Bernard was of excellent character and a loyal citizen and good soldier. During this time, he had met Miss Marian Elizabeth Tanner, who was working the elevator at Lone Star Gas Company, 1917 Wood Street (16th Floor) Dallas, TX. They courted and married on June 1,1946. They had two sons, Bernard N. Barnes, III and Timothy L. Barnes. Mr. Barnes enjoyed trips to Colorado with his family annually in July - they trekked to Manitou Springs and stayed at Mrs. Paul's big house (hotel) - His prize car was his 1965 white Mustang with white interior - and the family even made a trip to Colorado in the Mustang. Mr. Barnes worked for Lone Star Gas some 30 years - Assistant Chief Draftsman was his last position. Mr. Barnes was a big Ham Radio enthusiast - his call letters were KBT 3630. His boys have fond memories of long nights with Dad on the radio - even climbing up to turn the antennae for better reception much to the upset of Mother. He had 3 heart attacks - some 2 years apart with the 3rd one being fatal - later that evening. Mr. Barnes actually died the day of the birth of his first grandchild - Jennifer Joellen (Barnes) Simmons. JennyCraig99 is her page here @ FAG.
The Francis Marion Barnes Family actually settled in Rockwall County after the Civil War. In which Grandfather Francis fought with the 35th Alabama. Bernard,Sr. was one of fifteen children.
