Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy Glenn Searles died in the line of duty when he was hit by a minivan on Route 481 South in East Syracuse and was pinned against his cruiser. He was trying to help a driver whose car went off the road on an icy patch of the highway and was stuck in a median. He was a 1990 graduate of Liverpool High School and a graduate of the 53rd class of the Central New York Police Academy. He previously worked as a forensic investigator for the Onondaga County Medical Examiners Office. Deputy Searles is survived by: his father and stepmother, Gary and Elizabeth Searles of Solvay, NY; his mother, Geri Unrue of Baltimore, MD; his fiancee, Lynda Smalley of Marcellus, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Geoffrey and Katie Searles of Dundalk, MD; stepbrother, Jeremy Monica of Solvay; stepsister and her husband, Kami and Joe Watkins of Solvay; stepsister, Randee Campbell of Solvay; maternal step-grandparents, Gerald and Nora Elizabeth McSweeney of Boynton Beach, FL; five nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
