The daughter of Moritz Bernhardt "Morris" Hoelzel and Selma Maria Friedmann, "Minnie" was baptized as an infant at the Lutheran Church in DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri. She lived on the family farm in Melzo, Missouri and began working in St. Louis, Missouri when she was still a teenager.
Minnie married Jesse "Lee" Vint on 23 Jun 1924 at the Third Baptist Church in St. Louis (city), Missouri. Lee made his living as a plumber. The Vints moved first to Oregon and Washington for two years, and then to Ohio for the next eight.
During this time, the family began taking in foster children, a few at a time. In total, they would eventually help raise seventeen children over the next two decades.
Minnie lost a baby in 1930, but gave birth to her only surviving child, a son, twelve months later. In 1934, the family moved to Baden, a town in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Following Lee's sudden and unexpected death in 1951, Minnie took a temporary job as a clerk at a department store. With her only son away in the U.S. Navy, she decided to put herself through nurse's training, despite never again driving a car after her husband's death.
Minnie began her career as an LPN at Bethesda Hospital in the city of St. Louis at the age of 55. She bought a small house near one of her brothers and a sister in northwest St. Louis County, and supported herself as a nurse for the next fifteen years until her retirement.
A life-long gardener, Minnie was well-known for her exceptional ability to make anything grow.
She was a member of Stephan Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Louis County, Missouri. She was a member of Rob Morris Chapter #328 Order of the Eastern Star.
Minnie died of congestive heart failure following a series of strokes. She was 91 years, 3 months and 11 days old at the time of her death.
Minnie was survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law; 1 granddaughter; 1 grandson and his wife; 1 great-grandson; and 1 brother, Herman Hoelzel of St. Louis County.
In addition to her husband and infant son, Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; 5 brothers, Conrad Hoelzel, who died in infancy, George Hoelzel, Elmer Hoelzel, Carl Hoelzel and Frank Hoelzel; and 2 sisters, Rose Eads and Katheryn Killebrew.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. on 23 Aug 1990 at Shepard Funeral Home in St. Louis County. Funeral services were conducted at Shepard Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. the following afternoon. Minnie was buried next to her husband, Lee.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be given to the church or to a charity of one's choice.
