A Georgia State Patrol spokesperson said a trooper was shot and killed late Monday night.Trooper Chadwick LeCroy died after a shooting on Hightower Road and Saint Paul Avenue in northwest Atlanta just after 11 p.m, not far from the scene, officers said they found a gun they believe was used in the shooting.One person is in custody."The violator has been identified and we do have a suspect in custody at this time," said Mark McDonough of the Georgia State Patrol. Police said the man in custody pulled the trigger and killed LeCroy, 38, during a traffic stop."A small chase ensued where the violator wrecked," said McDonough. Officers said the man crashed on Hightower Road. Police said LeCroy approached the man's car and the two got into a fight."Shots were fired. Our trooper was struck multiple times and is deceased because of those wounds," said McDonough .Officials said LeCroy was shot twice in the face by the man and passed away from his injuries while being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police said after the shooting, the man jumped into the trooper's squad car and ditched it several blocks away near Gun Club Drive. GBI agents found a gun, believed to be the one used in the slaying, on top of an apartment building roof. The man's name is Gregory Favors, incredibly, a habitual offender, with 18 previous arrests, most recently 3 weeks prior to this senseless act. Officials with the Georgia State Patrol said LeCroy is the first trooper to be killed by gunfire in 35 years.

LeCROY, TFC CHAD TFC CHAD LECROY TFC Chad LeCroy #744, 38 of Marietta died on Monday, December 27, 2010. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 31, 2010 at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta with Rev. Dr. Ernest Easley and Chaplain Daniel Fagan #935 officiating. Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Chad was a loving husband and father, who was very devoted to his family and friends. He loved sports; was an avid hunter and had a special passion for playing softball. Chad was living his longtime dream of working in law enforcement. He truly loved his job with the Georgia State Patrol and looked forward to working each day. Survivors include his wife, Keisha Yearwood LeCroy; two sons, Bret LeCroy; Deaton Chase LeCroy all of Marietta; mother, Donna Houston & her husband, Sam of Blue Ridge; father, Bill LeCroy & his wife, Tonya of Marietta; four brothers, Bill LeCroy, Jr. of Indiana; Jamie LeCroy of New Georgia; Jack LeCroy and Jake LeCroy both of Marietta; father & mother-in-law, Ken & Vickie Yearwood of Douglasville; several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Chad to the Department of Safety Credit Union, P.O. Box 1456, Atlanta, GA 30371. On August 8th 2012 the State renamed the bridge over the Chattahoochie River, between Fulton and Cobb Counties, the the Trooper Chadwick T LeCroy Memorial Bridge, an honor well deserved for this brave man!.once more hundreds turned out HE WAS SO LOVED !!
