Noy Lee Wild Shoopman Singleton, age 90, of Somerset KY, passed away June 5, 2008, at Britthaven of Somerset Nursing Center. She was born August 23, 1917 in Lower Big Pine (Worley Community), Madison Co. North Carolina, to the late Homer Bunyan and Anna Lee Edwards Wild. The Wild family traces their history to New England, 1625.

In December 1920, Noy Lee's parents moved the family to a 165 acre farm in the Bethlehem Community on Clifty Creek, Pulaski County, KY. Believing stongly in a good education, Homer and Anna Wild donated part of their farm for the one room Clifty Creek School, and provided the teacher with room and board in their home. In order to attend Somerset High School, Noy Lee moved into town and rented a room in a private home, which she paid for with blue Ball jars filled with produce from the farm. She sold candy bars at school to add to her weekly allowance of one 50 cent piece. Noy Lee was inducted into Somerset High School's first National Honor Society. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1936 and attended Western Kentucky College in Bowling Green, Ky.

On March 31, 1937, she married Robert Lee Shoopman, Jr., of Somerset. They had two daughters, who survive her, Johanna Anderson of Tucker, GA and Sue Losey of Somerset.

Noy Lee married Walt Singleton of Eubank, KY, September 7, 1965. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2003. She is survived by Walt's daughters, sister-in-law Wilma and husband Boyd Tucker, and brother-in-law Wallace and Geneva Singleton.

Noy Lee was an employee of Somerset City Hospital/Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for 28 years. She worked primarily as Supervisor in the Business Office, but also in social services and public relations. She was a great communicator and applied this ability successfully in her work with employees and clients. She retired in 1980.

Noy Lee Singleton was preceded in death by all of her dear brothers and sisters: Faye Wild Wesley (Raymond), Gladys Wild Wesley (Ralph G.), Ralph Wild (Eva Godby), Leo Wild ('Libby' Vaught), and an infant sister Mayme.

Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church, 128 North Main Street, Somerset, Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11 AM. Burial will be in Somerset Cemetery.
