Homer King Ervin was the son of William Martin Ervin and Mary Angeline Brewer. In a second marriage for both, his parents wed July 8, 1888. William owned a farm of 380 acres near the community of Lavaca, the majority of which was cultivated. Mary kept the home.

By the 1900 census, Homer's father moved from his home in Arkansas. He was enumerated with his son James M. Ervin in Township 2, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, living between what is now Oklahoma, and his home in Arkansas.

By the 1910 census, Homer's father, age 70, permanently moved to the home of his son William in Ordway, Otero, Colorado. Mary remained in Arkansas where she reared Homer and his siblings.

As a young adult, Homer worked as a welder for an engineering supply company out of Tulsa Oklahoma. The employment was interrupted when he was called to military duty where he served his country as a private in the Heavy Mobile Shop of the 7th Infantry Division during World War I. At the time of enlistment, June 5, 1912, Homer was not married.

August 6, 1917, Homer married Mollie Weaver Pritchett, in Sebastian County, Arkansas.

Homer died at the age of 56 on January 3rd, 1950. At the time of his death, he was water superintendent at Charleston Lake.

Homer was survived by his wife and son. He was laid to rest at Nixon Cemetery, in Charleston, Franklin County, Arkansas.

Ancestral records trace Homer Ervin's family of origin to Scotland. The surname name was Anglicized from Irvine, to Erwin, to Ervin. The earliest settlers of his family lived in North Carolina. Branches migrated to Tennessee before coming to Arkansas.
