Vera Starnes Caperton was born in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) to Alfred S. Starnes and Della "Delia" Bangs. She was their only daughter and one of three children. Her family eventually moved their home to the Jenny Lind area in Sebastian County, Arkansas. She was the wife of Andrew Jackson Caperton.

Vera Starnes and and Andrew Jackson Caperton, married September 12, 1917 in Greenwood, Arkansas. In 1920 Vera and Andrew resided in Pocola, LeFlore County, Oklahoma. By 1930 they returned to Greenwood where they settled and made their home. Eight children were born from their marriage: Alene, Alfred Lee, Helen Bernice, Betty Jo, Bobby Jack, Floyd Dean, Willis Charles Caperton, and an infant son who died at birth. Vera was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, making dolls and doll clothes, working with arts and crafts, and hosting family gatherings for her children and grandchildren each Sunday and on holidays. She was always jovial and sweet spirited.

Her husband Andrew died in 1950 at the age of 58 leaving Vera a widow until her death in 1981. She lived out her years as a resident of Greenwood, Arkansas. She is buried with Andrew and family at Cross Cemetery in Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas.

Note: Even though Vera's delayed birth certificate noted 1900 as her birth year, Vera was certain her birth year was 1899 as her father, Alfred Starnes, always told her she was born on the "last day, of the last month, of the last year of the century," making her actual birth date December 31, 1899.

Information for Vera's memorial was established as a tribute to her life and in loving memory by her son, Bobby Jack Caperton, and granddaughter, Gina.
