Jacob Bangs married Abigail Lawrence about 1827 in Fortress Monroe, now known as Fort Monroe, Virginia. Jacob Bangs, a soldier, drowned while fording the Withlacoochie River, 13 NOV 1836,(Florida War Death List, 1836-1842), during the Second Seminole War (1836-1846) or sometimes called the Second Florida War.

These three pyramids cover vaults containing the individually unidentified remains of 1468 soldiers of the Florida Indian Wars 1835 - 1842

The Florida Indian Wars began with the murder of an Indian agent at Fort Kind on December 25, 1835. While enroute from Fort Brooke (Tampa) to Fort Kind (Ocala), 106 officers and men under command of Major Francis L. Dade, Company B, 4th Regiment Of Infantry, were ambushed by hostile Indians on December 28, 1835. All but two men were killed in the attack. The remains of Major Dade and those who perished with him are interred beneath these pyramids.

There are 3 vaults in this cemetery marked by 3 pyramids which contain the unidentified remains of soldiers that were killed or died by disease during the Florida Indian Wars, 1835 - 1842. I spoke with Ana with Florida Cemeteries and verified that about 15 years ago, some records were found in Washington, D.C. confirming the identity of some of the soldiers buried in these vaults. Mr. Bangs is buried in one of these vaults, but the records do not say which one. The official location listed on the V.A. website is Section PYRM, 616. There are still about 1200 soldiers that are unidentified in these vaults.
