Mary E. Hartgraves, wife of Thomas H. Caperton, married July 22, 1853 in Maury County, Tennessee. By the 1870 Census, Mary, Thomas and children had moved to Lawrence, Alabama (Township 4, Range 9). From their marriage, six children were born. The first five - Elizabeth "Bettie" C., Sarah Jane, William Thomas, Susan A. and John F. were born in Tennessee. Their last child, Benjamin F. was born in Alabama.

Family believe the burial location for Mary and her husband Thomas is Lawrence County, Alabama. It is known that their daughter Elizabeth C. "Bettie" married Charley Alston.
