Born in Lombard, Illinois, on September 7, 1926, to William Whalen and Veronica Perry Whalen, Veronica was a member of St. Joseph’s University Parish Church in Terre Haute, Indiana. She spent her entire life volunteering assistance for others and was a true humanitarian example of a life lived with a deep and abiding faith through prayer for all who had illnesses and special needs. Veronica lived a simple life that has had a powerful and lasting impact on her family and friends. Following an illness in December, 2013, Veronica moved to the Providence Health Center at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, where the Sisters of Providence welcomed her into their loving care. Veronica spent her last eight months celebrating new friendships and sharing daily worship with the Sisters of Providence community. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Martin; her sister, Eileen; her brother, Frank; and a son, Daniel. Surviving are her only daughter Madonna; sons Anthony, Leonard, Patrick, Timothy, and Vincent; son-in-law Jim; daughters-in-law Ruth, Priscilla, and Diane; and grandchildren Christopher, Kandace, Miriam, Catherine, Joseph, and Max.
