First wife of Franklin W. Cremer & daughter-in-law of Jeremiah M. and Martha Jane (Gamble) Cremer. Jeremiah's family Bible lists her middle name as "Jane". Frank & Mary Jane were married Dec. 25, 1887 in Nebraska. She was born in Iowa (probably Peoria, Mahaska County) and her parents were Joseph M. and Nancy (Huston) McCarter. Her siblings were William, Alice, Sarah A. and Thomas McCarter; she was the youngest. Mary Jane died shortly after the birth of their only child, Thomas J. Cremer who survived. Her husband and son eventually settled in West Frankfort, Illinois and are buried there in the Tower Heights Cemetery near Frank's 2nd wife Ada Elizabeth (Washburn) Cremer.
