He was born to parents Marion Dudley Davenport and Nancy J Reynolds and was the 5th of 8 children. He married Nona Aline Smith on 12 Aug 1920 in Los Angeles, CA. They had two children, Claude "Buster" Wilbur Davenport and LaVeda Marjorie Davenport. For a period of time in his youth, Claude and his brother Chester were "jitney" bus drivers in Santa Monica. He served in the Army during WWI and died shortly thereafter following surgery for a subdural abscess on his brain at 29 years of age, just one day following his son's 3rd birthday. My grandmother said that the brain/sinus abscess was a result of the mustard gas used during WWI but it has not been confirmed.

He was buried on January 4, 1925 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica, CA.

His widow, Nona Aline Smith-Davenport, married second James W Compher on 12 Apr 1927 in Santa Ana, CA. Unfortunately, James died from meningitis and Tuberculosis within 6 months of their marriage and she was widowed again in Sep 1927. She married a third time to Forest W. "Lucky" Gilbreath in 1935 and moved to Talent, Oregon in 1943/44, where both died, he in 1976 and she in 1983.

His mother Nancy J Reynolds and his uncle Wilford J Davenport Wilford J Davenport are also buried at Woodlawn Cemetery
