Robert (Bob) Bates 1/1/1934-7/20/2013 Resident of San Jose CA

Robert (Bob) Bates passed from this life Saturday July 20th after a brief illness, surrounded by family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents William and Anna Bates, and his siblings Anna, Margaret, Evelyn and Frank.

Bob was born and raised in Selma, California and graduated from Selma High School in 1952. He went on to graduate from Reedly Junior College in 1954. Bob's education was interrupted by his military service in the Korean War where he attained the rank of Army Staff Sergeant and was tremendously proud of his appointment to the Special Services Army Band. After the war Bob returned to California and attended Fresno State joining the Sigma Nu fraternity and graduating with a degree in Business Engineering in 1958.

After graduation Bob moved to San Francisco where his greatest joy was meeting and marrying the love of his life, Dale Falk Bates. People said their whirlwind romance (they only dated twice before the proposal) certainly wouldn't last, but 52 years later it was still going strong. Bob and Dale moved to San Jose in 1966, where they lived the rest of his life.

Bob was the proud father of son Robert (wife Lisa) and daughter Julie (spouse Kimba) and his grandest girls Whitney and Monica. Bob retired from the Santa Clara County Assessor's office after 35 years of service. From that day forward he devoted himself to entertaining friends and traveling the world with Dale; their last trip to Ireland ending just three weeks ago. Bob was a proud family man and devoted husband. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers please give donations to the Butter Paddle Children's Fund, 33 North Los Gatos Blvd,, Los Gatos CA 95030,Tel (408) 395-1678, in memory of Bob.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Bob's life at their home Sunday August 4th, 2-4pm.
