Roger Laferriere was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on Feb 2, 1943, to Lionel and Anita LaFerriere, the oldest of five siblings. He was raised and educated in Chicopee, MA. Soon after graduating from high school, Roger joined the Navy. He served his active duty aboard the destroyer USS Beatty, primarily deployed in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean.

Roger married Carol Cloutier in April 1966 and they settled in Chicopee, MA. Their first son, Craig, was born in 1967. The triplets, Jason, Keith and Christine, were born in 1970. Working by day and going to school at night, Roger earned a BS in Accounting from Western New England College in 1978. He worked for a number of firms in the area.

After Roger and Carol divorced, Roger relocated to San Diego in 1986 and became an active member of the Dignity Community (LGBT Catholic organization). There he met Steve Hardesty and they began a loving relationship which lasted until Steve's untimely death in 1990.

Hardesty and Laferriere were joined in holy union July 12, 1987 in a ceremony arranged through Dignity and held at a private home. As members of Christ the King Catholic Church, their photo as a couple appeared in the parish's 50th Anniversary yearbook.

In late 1990, Roger's friendship with Allen Roske evolved into a committed partnership. For the next twenty-six and a half years they shared their lives and their love, and made a home together.

Roger was passionate about the performing arts. He was a frequent theatergoer. He loved film and had a large collection of movies, old and new. But he was especially a lover of music. Over the years, he served his faith communities as a cantor and a choir director. Roger had a very fine singing voice.

Roger had great compassion for those in need. For six years in the mid 1990s, he and Allen delivered meals to the homebound ill for the Special Delivery San Diego service organization. He was a faithful donor to the San Diego Rescue Mission.

In Roger's last years, one of his greatest joys were his ex-racer greyhounds, Georgie and Whisper. These gentle and elegant dogs were his constant companions and the source of much comfort.
