1st Generation Oregonian
Lola Amelia Froman was a native Oregonian, born on Dec 8th, 1867 in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, on her parents' donation land claim in the Albany area. Her parents, Isaac Rand Froman (1830-1922) and Eliza Jane (Henderson) Froman (1835-1907) were the proud parents of at least five children with Lola being the only daughter. In the 1870 Census, the Burkharts and the Fromans lived near each other, with just three families between them, so they knew each other well in the growing community. In 1885, she married Crill Davidson Burkhart (1864-1936), one of thirteen children who had been borne of the union of Coriolanus Domarus "Crill" Burkhart and Caroline Lavinia Goff. Crill and Lola moved to Eugene, Oregon where he was a Teamster and, later, a Rock Crusher. In @1920, they moved onto a farm near the town of Harrisburg (South of Albany), Linn Co., Oregon, to live on and farm. Lola and Crill set about raising livestock and farming crops. During their marriage, three children were borne of their union. Tommy L.(Leander?) was their first born child, b. 1889 in the family home. His was an all too brief life, as he died in 1892 and was buried at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. Lola went on to give birth to two more children, both daughters. Zella Maysel was born on June 4th, 1891 and her sister, Verl Eliza Creille was born on March 13, 1892. Both daughters grew up to attend college where they each obtained degrees in Teaching. Zella and Verl both taught in schools in the Eugene and Albany areas throughout their lives. Also, both chose not to marry, each supporting themselves and living independently. Crill continued to farm the land until his sudden death on Nov 19th, 1936 from a Cerebral Hemorrhage. He was buried at the Masonic Cemetery near his son who'd been lost to them so many years ago. Lola chose never to remarry, remaining in their family home until she became ill in March 1955 with Coronary Thrombosis. She was admitted to the hospital in Albany where she died three days later, on Mar 14th, 1955, at the age of 87 yrs. She was buried next to her husband at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon. Daughter Zella passed on Jul 7, 1984 and her sister Verle passed on Oct 17th, 1985. They share a headstone near their parents at the Masonic Cemetery in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon.
