Richard graduated with the Durfee High School Class of 1965 and was one of the best liked guys in his neighborhood.
He enlisted in the Marines 30 December 1965, at a recruiting office in Boston, MA. Richard was in the Marine Reserves, before going into active duty.
He arrived in Vietnam 9 August 1966, where he was assigned to 1st Platoon, Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Richard died as a result of gunshot wound to his left arm and shoulder exiting his left axilla, during an NVA night attack, at Hill 881N and 8 kilometers west northwest of Khe Sanh Airfield, in the vicinity of Huong Hoa District, during Operation Beacon Star.
Richard was single and served his country for 1 year, 4 months and 3 days and was KIA #11,831.
He had been in Vietnam for 8 months and 24 days.
Richard was 21 years, 8 months and 5 days old.
Survived by his parents, Alphonse and Mary (stepmother) Almeida, of 43 Stewart Street, Fall River, MA.

His mother, Seraphina Almeida died in 1948.
