Conrad was a minister by trade, and was a member of the Evangelical Church. At the age of 12, while listening to a Methodist preacher, made up his mind that when he grew up, he would become a man of the cloth.
As a minister, the church had Conrad assigned to many positions around the country. Conrad and his family lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kansas, and finally coming to rest back in Ohio.
Through the marriage of Conrad and Catherine, twelve children were born nine sons and three daughters;
