Peggy was a sweet, smart child and she happily went to nursing school with the understanding that she would help her parents send her younger sister to school as well. In her last year of school, she met a young man who had returned from serving the US Army less than 48 hours before. It was West Virginia University's homecoming weekend. Later that evening, she told her roommate, Lois, "I met the man that I am going to marry!"
The following September, they were married at All Saint's Church in Masontown, PA. After Roy graduated from Physical Therapy School in Houston, Texas, they returned to the Morgantown, WV and Uniontown, PA area. Those jobs led to St. John's hospital in Steubenville, Ohio (Where they were very active in Cursillo) and eventually to Americus, GA. Along the way, they raised three beautiful children who miss them very much.
Peggy was a wonderful nurse. She left floor nursing to work with her husband, Roy, in his Physical Therapy departments and together they founded their own Rehab agency.
Peggy was a fabulous Mom, throwing wonderful birthday parties for her children where she would make pan after pan of delicious homemade pizza. She was an incredible cook and seamstress, making most of her children's clothes. She was a youth leader at St. Mary's, drove everyone to out of town football games, made 5 star meals in a pop up camper, was a timer and kid corraller at Blue Tide swim meets, put up vegetables from the family garden at the horse barn and was there for her family in countless other ways. Her retirement was not idle. They spent their time between Americus, the north Georgia mountains and Ormond Beach, Fl. A gifted quilter, each child cherishes their hand sewn original quilts. She and Dad were avid motorcyclists, traveling often with friends. She was a great golfer and played bridge and poker both with skill and laughter.
She and Roy made the most of their time with their grandchildren, loving them unconditionally and spoiling them rotten. More than that, they gave us all morals, ethics, empathy and the desire to succeed and help others along the way. They taught us the "The Way it has always been" is not always "The way it should be"!
