Police Officer with the Honolulu Police Department. He was injured in a motorcycle accident while escorting the President of the United States of America on November 21, 2006 from Hickan Air Force Base. The pavement was wet and his motorcycle slipped on it. He died of his injuries a few days later. He was one of 75 recruits who made up the department's 129th recruit class, entering the department at age 21. He served as a patrol officer at the Kalihi Substation before he joined the solo bike detail two years ago. Steve helped many stranded motorists while on duty, many times allowing the driver use of his personal cell phone to call for help. He was awarded many commendations and letters of appreciation during his career. He also served in the Maritime Safety and Security Team. Favela was part of a team whose mission was boarding boats deemed a threat to U.S. ports or other maritime interests. His team was attached to the Maritime Law Enforcement/Force Protection Detachment. Favela spent 10 years in the military, including 6 1/2 years in the Air National Guard and 3 1/2 years in the Coast Guard Reserve. He is survived by his wife; their daughter and three sons.
