Glenn was the youngest child of seven children born to Charles Edwin Hughey (from Illinois) and Constance Caroline Ardley Blenkarn (from Nottinghamshire, England). Glenn says 'My father had a brother named Harry, and mymother wanted to name me after him, but her resented it, so she named me Glenn Blenkarn, after her brother, Rev. O.E.A. (Albert Osborn Ardley) Blenkarn , a minister of the Congregational Church. Glenn had 5 brothers and 1 sister. He served in WW I along with 3 brothers.

Glenn married Lenora Elizabeth Hurt (from Virginia) on 27 Jul 1929 in Angola Indiana by a woman preacher,which was unusual for those days. He and Lenora met while both were working at Kellogg's. They moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where he worked at the Kellogg's Company for 39 years and retired 30 April 1966. They had 3 sons and 2 daughters:
