Civil War Vet: He enlisted August 12, 1862 as a private in A Company, 91st Illinois Infantry and mustered out in Mobile, Alabama on July 12, 1865

He married Mary Ann James (the daughter of James W. James and Marada Sutton) on April 17, 1857; they had one daughter. His wife died in 1861 and he moved to Montgomery County, Illinois (where his parents had been married in 1829). There he married Samantha Kean on October 14, 1867. They had at least nine children (four boys and five girls). After Samantha's death, he married Edith E (Sinclair) Rogers on January 25, 1897.
