According to the Cuba NY newspaper. Frank Stockman was born in Naples, Ontario Co. NY.
He may have lived with or possibly even been adopted by Francis 'Frank' Stockman and Mahitable Wells Stockman. According to the 1850 census in Hume, NY, Francis was born about 1810 in England, while Mahitable was born about 1814 in Maine. No census information has been found that puts Frank with or even near Francis and Mahitable Stockman. AncestorSeekers has been unable to find his birth certificate.
Frank was not found on the 1860 Federal Census. On the 13 July 1870 census he is shown as a farm laborer in South Bristol, Ontario Co., NY, living with the family of Russell Brown.
Franklin P. Stockman married Susan Emily 'Susie' Peer on 26 Jul 1874 in Canandaigua, NY.
On the 11 June 1880 census, Frank and Susan were living in Canandaigua, NY, with Nellie Maude and Andrew.
Father of five children: Nellie Maude Glover, 1875-1958; Andrew Wells Stockman, 1877-1951; Frances F Barron, 1883-1974; Richard B Stockman, 1890-1971; and George F Stockman, Sr, 1892-1970.
His obituary in the Patriot and Press newspaper of Cuba, NY on Oct. 1, 1926 states that he was born in Naples, NY 1 Apr 1853.
The Nunda News on 24 Sep 1926 states: "The burial of Frank Stockman, Friendship, who died Friday was held at Oakwood Cemetery."
According to The Nunda News on 14 Jan 1927, under a column listing a summary of local events in 1926: On 24 Sep 1926 the "Remains of Frank Stockman were brought here from Friendship for burial."
As Frank Stockman's great grandson, I may have had the first Y-DNA test by anyone in the Stockman paternal line. I am related through his son George, and grandson, George Jr. Curiously, my closest Y-DNA matches are to several men with a Barnum surname. We share both SNP and STR matches for R-FGC57007.
I have made no progress in ascertaining the identity of Frank's biological mother, specifically whether it was Mahitable Wells Stockman or not.
