In the 1900 census, it is indicated that Serena had 4 children, but only three were still at home, Claud, James and Lilburn.

William Lilburn Bottom, 68, of New River passed away at the Scott County Hospital Monday, February 17, 1969 after an illness of two years. He was a veteran of WWI. Survivors, wife, Mrs. Opal Wilson Bottom of New River; five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Newport of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mrs. Beatrice Wyatt of Crossville, Mrs. Frances Baty of Springport, Indiana, Margaret Ann Bottom and Ada Marie Bottom of Muncie, Indiana; two sons, Troy Eugene Bottom of New River, Robert Bottom of Crossville, one brother, James S. Bottom of Russell Springs, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted from the West Funeral Home Chapel 10 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 1969 with the Rev. Carl Jeffers officiating. Burial followed in the Wolf River Cemetery, American Legion Post 136 was in charge of military honors at graveside. West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
