The old Lady Powell, mother of John and Joe Powell, of near Burr, we learn this morning is to be buried today.

The Sterling Sun, 11 May 1894, page 1

As we mentioned in a small notice last week, Mrs. Isabel Powell died at her home five or six miles northeast of Sterling on Wednesday of last week and was buried on Friday, in the family grave yard where her husband and two children had preceded her. Mrs. Powell was 77 years old last March and had lived on the farm where she died and was buried, since 1857. Her husband died several years ago and she stayed by the old homestead and raised her family of children, four of whom still reside in that neighborhood, some of them on the old farm. Two of her sons, John and Joe are well known to Sterling people and are largely engaged in farming and stock raising. Their mother continued to reside with them during her declining years and in her loss they have the sympathy of the community.

Card of Thanks (same newspaper)

To the many friends who assisted us during the illness and burial of our mother, Isabel Powell, and to the kind lady of Sterling, who sent out some beautiful flowers we desire to extend our sincere thanks.
