John Taylor Angell, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2012. He was born on September 14, 1926, in Boones Mill, son of the late John William and Lizzie Slone Angell. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Stewart, Ed and Robert Angell; and a sister, Vivian Woods. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy (June) Angell; two sons, Barry Angell and wife, Sherry and Ronny Angell and wife, Patty; sister, Lillian Stump; five grandchildren, Ronny Taylor Angell Jr., Jennifer Lynn Angell, John Patrick Angell, Eric Shawn Angell and Barri Laura Shifflett; six great-grandchildren, Kenneth Gilmore Jr., Allysa Hurley, Alex Shifflett, Shawn Taylor Angell, Mathieu Angell and Taylor Anne Angell; special stepgranddaughter, Kristin Gray; a number of stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Angell was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II. He was a retired truck driver from Jones Motor Company, and worked following his retirement for the Roanoke County School System and also owned his own business. He attended Bethel Baptist Church for years and loved his family and enjoyed spending his life with them. He volunteered his time by driving veterans from the Salem VA Medical Center to Richmond. He was loved by all who knew him.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Hylton Jeffries officiating.
