Edythe Augusta Van Etten, 89, passed away Monday November 15, 2010 in the Hospice of Arizona, Sun City West, Arizona.
She will be cremated and the service to place the ashes at the grave of her husband, Robert Van Etten, will be performed in May 2011 in Oswego, Illinois.
Mrs. Van Etten was born October 13, 1921, a daughter of Lacy and Emma Roach in Arthur, North Dakota.
She is survived by her Sisters Gladys Burgess, and Lorraine Roden, six children: Janet, Randall (Laura), Roger (Dawn), Martin, Cynthia (Terry) Czernysz , Ronald (Kathy), six grand children Raymond Van Etten, Victoria Henry, Lynette, Rudy and Emmelia Van Etten and nine great grand children Gary Jr., Antony, Darnell Elwood, Justin Wieder and Therman Nuckols Jr.; Andrew, Elizabeth, and Tiana Van Etten.
Edythe graduated from High School in Casselton, North Dakota in 1938, received a nursing diploma from Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago in 1945, returned to school and became one of the first ANA Certified Occupational Health Nurses in Illinois, went on to earn a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree in 1981, and enjoyed the last 3 years as a student in the Sun City Festival ASU Life Long Learning.
Edythe retired in 1982, after 17 years from Barber-Greene Company of Aurora, and in 1993, after 11 years, from Michaelsen Health Center of Batavia.
Edythe participated in world-wide adventures that included health conferences in England, Yugoslavia and Argentina. In 2000, she traveled with a delegation of U.S. nurses to deliver nursing and medical books to universities and hospitals in China.
