Robert “Bob” G. Gadsby, 71, of Grand Island, formerly of Elba and Ord areas, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Rev. Jon Keyser will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elba with military honors by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 of St. Paul.


Mr. Gadsby was born Oct. 6, 1944, in South Dakota to Tracy and Loretta Gadsby. Bob served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1974 in the Vietnam War as a door gunner. He spent time during his service in Germany.

He was united in marriage to Mary Purcell on June 8, 1977, in Aurora, Ore. Bob spent most of his working life as a truck driver across the United States. He earned numerous safe driving awards.

Survivors include a son, Robert Gadsby and Tina Gibson-Gadsby and her children of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Joseph Eastwood of San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren who were especially close to Bob, Derrick Gadsby and Katherine Hernandez, Michael Eastwood, Brittney Eastwood, Sheree Medlock, Zaria Medlock and Kasara Sue Barger; two great-grandchildren, Antonio Gadsby and Prometheus Neil Gadsby; a brother, Ronald Gadsby; sisters, Donna Gadsby, Pat Sharp, Linde Kornaza and Sharon Hamer; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; a brother and sister.
