Sam was a 1956 Graduate of Boonsboro High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1960 until 1963. Sam had previously worked 23 years as a tool and die maker for the American Optical Company in Frederick, Maryland, and he retired in 2003 from Rose Enclosures in Buckeystown, Maryland. He was member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis K. (Morgan) Armstrong; one son, Donald Lee Armstrong, II; one grandson; and one great grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and George Armstrong.
A graveside service will be held at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
