Champion Race Horse. In his short three year racing career, Swaps had only twenty five starts but finished first nineteen times and out of the money but once. His only Eastern appearence was the Kentucky Derby which he won with Willie Shoemaker aboard in 1955. The following year, this amazing animal was declared horse of the year. He was constantly plagued by hoof injuries but still ran while hurt. Swaps was put to sleep during retirement at Spendthrift farm in Kentucky and was buried here. Fourteen years later his remains were reinterred in the garden of the Kentucky Derby Museum along the Walk of Fame were he joined two other Derby winners: Brokers Tip & Carry Back. His grave is barely 100 yards from the finish line of his greatest victory.
