Italian Air Force General, Aeronautical Engineer. Acclaimed designer of the Vespa, scooter that according to most of the international experts had a remarkable impact on culture and society from 1946 onwards. In 1948, he attended to the first international congress of the Helicopter Association International in Philadelphia, where was hailed as a pioneer. D'Ascanio wrote several scientific essays and was professor of design of machines and projects at the University of Pisa between 1937 and 1961. He was awarded with the Gold Medal of the Royal Aero Club of Italy for three world records Helicopter (1931), Gold Medal of the Ministry of Aeronautics (1950), Gold Medal to the worthy members of Culture and Art (1961) and in 1976, was appointed "Cavaliere di gran croce dell'Ordine al merito della Repubblica Italiana".
