Roman Catholic Cardinal. After studying philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Monza, he received his doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. On May 9, 1926, he was ordained a priest in the church of San Bernardino in Sesto Calende. In 1931, he became a member of the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See as secretary of the apostolic delegation in Greece and Turkey and assistant of the Apostolic Nuncio Angelo Roncalli, the future Pope John XXIII. Dell'Acqua was rector of the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary, and from 1950 until 1967 Deputy of the Vatican Secretariat of State. In 1967, he was created Cardinal of the Parish of Saints Ambrose and Charles by Pope Paul VI. From 1967 until 1972, he was president of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See and Vicar of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome. During his ecclesiastical life, Dell'Acqua was awarded with several Italian and foreign honors. He died at the age of sixty-eight due to a heart attack.
