Mary (Knouse) Long went home to her lord and Savior on Christmas Eve. Mary was born January 12, 1923 to Cloyd and Florence Knouse. Her final wish was to spend her last days at home in the same house in which she resided for most of her 97 years.
Mary married David Long, who preceded her in death in April of 1971, and she would spend the next 49 years missing him, while she raised 3 of her 5 children who were still at home. Never able to drive, Mary worked hard her whole life in order to make ends meet. She spent many years raising and selling chickens and ducks, cracking and selling walnuts and hickory nuts, and crocheting rugs and doilies until her eyesight failed. Mary spent most Sundays playing Hawaiian Rummy and Pinochle with her family.
Mary is survived by her children, Nancy (Ken) Haines, Ray (Janet) Long, Joan (Terry) Stevenson, Ken (Lori) Long, and Connie (Keith) Reichner; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, David Jr. "Butch"; and 5 siblings, Esther, Roy, Bob, Ruth, and George.
There will be no public viewing due to COVID restrictions.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 2 pm at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Kratzerville, with Rev. Rick White officiating.
The family requests that anyone attending to please wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kratzerville, 4298 Rt. 204, Selinsgrove, PA 17870 where she was a life-long member.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
