Some info shows that Wm Amrin served in the Spanish-American War as a Private in the US Army. He was assigned to Company D of the 1 Regiment, V Cavalry.

William volunteered 5 May 1898 and was enlisted in the US Vth Corps, 1st US Volunteer Cavalry, Troop D, as a Saddler. The 1st became known as the Rough Riders, under Col. Theodore Roosevelt. They engaged in the first battle of the Spanish-American War in Cuba, the Battle of Las Guasimas, and a week later the Battle of San Juan Hill.

The Rough Riders returned to USA on 15 Aug 1898 aboard US Miami to Camp Wickoff at Montauk Point, Long Island NY, and were mustered out 15 Sep 1898. William was discharged over a month later on 17 Oct 1898, suggesting that he may have been hospitalized with disease or injury. He returned to Garden City, Finney KS.Middle name: Dexter
