Detective Chris Jones, age 37, of the Middletown Township Pennsylvania Police Department. He was a 1989 graduate of Bensalem High School in 1989 and attended a Criminal Justice course at Chapman University in California while serving in the United States Navy for seven years. He served in Operation Desert Storm, and was honorably discharged in 1996 with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. He worked for 2 years as a Corrections Officer for the Bucks County PA prison system and in 1998 became a patrolman for Middletown Township. He was killed in an automobile accident while on duty, the first officer to lose his life in the line of duty in the history of the Middletown Township Police Department. Having passed all the requirements to achieve the rank of Detective, Chris was posthumously promoted to the rank of Detective. His badge number 4466 and patrol car call number 4429 were retired in his honor. Officer Jones was known throughout the community for his dedication to duty, his love of family, his compassion and respect for all. Several years ago Middletown police issued their own baseball cards with officers on them and each got to put his own quote on the back. Chris wrote: "Treat other people the way you would like to be treated...always do the right thing and take responsibility for your actions." He was survived by his wife of 17 years Suzanne; their three children; his parents, William and Dorothea; brothers Brian D. (Nicole), Russell S. Potens (Jeanine) and Andrew S. Potens (Kelley); and by several nieces and nephews. Bio written by Sue.
