United States World War I Marine. He served during World War I as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, enlisting on December 15, 1917. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 1st Marine Aviation Force. He died of pneumonia at the British Expeditionary Force General Hospital in Calais, France, which he contracted after spending two days in the drizzling rain while working on fixing a troubled aircraft.

He was an 1912 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania.

He lies buried in Plot D, Row 3, Grave 5 of the Somme American Cemetery, Bony, France.

His family erected a cenotaph to him in their family plot in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
