Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 23rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 25, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private in Company B on September 13, 1862. He served through the December 1862 Fredericksburg Campaign, was promoted to Corporal on March 1, 1863, and served in the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign. He was honorably mustered out on June 27, 1863.
