The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private John H. Sorenson (ASN: 2289565), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 364th Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, A.E.F., near Eclisfontaine, France, 4 October 1918. Private Sorenson volunteered and remained with a wounded comrade in a gun position when his division was relieved. He gave all the aid possible and then went some 500 meters through heavy shell and machine-gun fire for further medical assistance and returned with it to his companion.
