Mrs. Stanley Wood of Richville, received a telegram Monday from the war department stating that her husband, Pvt Stanley F. Wood, was reported killed in action December 23, 1944 in Belgium.

Pvt Wood enlisted in the army in February 1942 and trained at Camp Dix, Pine Camp, Camp Dowle and other centers. He was shipped overseas in December 1943 to England and later to France. He served with the 4th armored division in the 3rd army under General Patton.

Pvt and Mrs. Wood were married September 24, 1943. Mrs. Wood is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ogden Rickter. Surviving besides Mrs. Wood are his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Mr and Mrs. Elmer Wood of Upper Grove street have received word that the remains of their son, Pvt Stanley F. Wood, killed in action in the European theater Dec 23, 1944 will arrive in this village this evening.

The body will be met at the New York Central station by an honor guard composed of member of the American Legion and Veterans of foreign wars and escorted to the Sprague Funeral Home, Barnes Street.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 from the Sprague Funeral Home, Rev. Harold A. Thomas, pastor of First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Full military honors of the American Legion and V.F.W. will be accorded in grave-side ceremonies.

Private Wood was born in Antwerp Jan 28, 1924. He was a student at the Gouverneur High School when he entered the service on Feb 2, 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Lee, Va and was later transferred to the medical corps, Fort Monmouth, NJ.

Private Wood also served with the Eighth Tank battalion of the Fourth Armored division at Pine Camp. Following maneuvers at Camp Needles, Calif., Private Wood was ordered to England in December 1943. He saw his first action in July 1944 and fought in the campaigns in France before he was killed in the Battle of the Bulge.

On Sept 24, 1943 Private Wood married the former Lucille Rickter in Richville.

Private Wood is survived by his parents, five sisters, Mrs. Wendell (Florence0 Jeffers, Wegatchie; Mrs. Joseph (Georgina) Peluso, Auburn; Mrs. Thacher (Grace) Cline, Bigelow; Mrs. Chester (Katherine) Patterson; Miss Susie WOod, Gouverneur, and tow brothers, Richard and Harold Wood, both of Gouverneur.
