Mary Blanche Reder was born on October 15, 1908 in Mulvane Kansas. She was born at home on a rural farm. Her family lived on this farm throughout her childhood.
She began dating (her soon to be husband) in High school. They dated for a total of nine years and ended up getting married in 1934.
After high school, Mary attended Fair Mt College which is now known as Wichita State University. While attending Wichita State, she received her math degree in education and later taught at West High School for four or five years.
Mary and her Husband marred on May 23 of 1934. They then moved to a farm that was one hundred and sixty acres. Where their farm was located is now the same location of Town East in Wichita. Back when they lived there they had a decision to either stay on the farm (town east) or move to a smaller house where they would have a guaranteed paycheck, they chose the small house. Man if they would have stayed on the farm who knows how much money they would have made! Mary had two kids, Jenny and Judy, whom are both still living.
Mary’s husband died in 1972 and she was never happy again after his death. Mary began to lose memories and suffered from dementia. She later died of natural causes in November of 2000.
Mary was loved by everyone in her family. I can remember going to the nursing home when I was a little girl to see my great grandma Mary, and she was always happy to see us, but then again she was grouchy. It is hard to lose a husband, so I wasn’t too mad!
